Late last night, my eight year old slammed her hand in a door as so many eight year olds do. After the initial screaming and Oh My Gods were over, we put it on ice and waited for the swelling to go down to see what we had. Black and blue, slightly movable... okay. Not broken? Hmmm....

This morning went like this:

8:30 Decide to take her to DR. Miller and have it checked.
9:30 Arrive at Dr. Miller's office
10:20 Sent to hospital to have x-ray
12:30 Left hospital
12:40 Back to Dr. Miller who sends us to Dr. Cox (orthopedic surgeon) because hospital sees possible fracture
12:45 Arrive at Dr. Cox's (across the hall)
1:10 Told we must go back to hospital to pick up x-rays and to Dr. Miller to get referral
1:20 Back to Dr. Miller's to request referral
(Quick stop at McDonalds drive through)
1:30 Back to hospital
2:00 Back to Dr. Miller to pick up referral
2:05 Back to DR. Cox
3:30 Finally able to fo home!

Diagnosis after 7 fucking hours..... a bruised knuckle!

You have my sympathies, as I’ve gone through similar scenarios with my kids. But, as frustrating as it is, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and make sure it’s nothing serious. Glad everything turned out ok.

Kids are kids. Knock on wood we've been lucky so far.
