Late last night, my eight year old slammed her hand in a door as so many eight year olds do. After the initial screaming and Oh My Gods were over, we put it on ice and waited for the swelling to go down to see what we had. Black and blue, slightly movable... okay. Not broken? Hmmm....

This morning went like this:

8:30 Decide to take her to DR. Miller and have it checked.
9:30 Arrive at Dr. Miller's office
10:20 Sent to hospital to have x-ray
12:30 Left hospital
12:40 Back to Dr. Miller who sends us to Dr. Cox (orthopedic surgeon) because hospital sees possible fracture
12:45 Arrive at Dr. Cox's (across the hall)
1:10 Told we must go back to hospital to pick up x-rays and to Dr. Miller to get referral
1:20 Back to Dr. Miller's to request referral
(Quick stop at McDonalds drive through)
1:30 Back to hospital
2:00 Back to Dr. Miller to pick up referral
2:05 Back to DR. Cox
3:30 Finally able to fo home!

Diagnosis after 7 fucking hours..... a bruised knuckle!

I'm sorry, after the drama build up I laughed out loud at the diagnosis. I went through a similar ordeal with my son years ago. I just wanted to throttle the doctors.

I hope mother and daughter are doing well.

Luckily, she's never really done anything worthy of scaring us to death. Still waiting for that one!

Going on the 6th!

May the gods bless a bruised knuckle - even after all those cranky hours. I remember a little journey that started out with: he might need a couple of stitches on his forehead... to a depressed skull fracture/surgery.

**huggles you for the angst** and tell the little miss to watch her bloody fingers!! (I lost a fingernail in the door of a Rambler station wagon at her age).

Oh yeah. Don't think I could handle head surgury. I think I'd die first. I don't know how you got through it, but kudos!

*hugs* as annoying as that is you have to be glad that is all it was! A little girl I looked after dropped a pot on her foot and I kept saying for the parents to take her to the Dr, it didn't look that bad but she had issues walking on it, well the next day that I had her I took her to the ER, she ended up with 3 broken bones and a massive chip.

7 hours now is nothing compared to the 3 or 4 hours as you wait for her in surgery!

Give her a hug from me and chocolate cause at least she made your life exciting!

Exciting... LOL

Yeah. It could have turned out badly so I'm counting my blessings.

Yep... I know that drill well. But we would put ourselves through the wringer if there WAS actually something wrong & we fobbed it off :)

That is so pathetic. The amount of time one has to waste to get (in this case good) news. I shudder to think of emergency rooms...

I hope the hand starts to feel better very soon.

Did she at least get the luck, as I did at 8 years old (you remember, I'm sure) of hurting her left hand? Because that was a pretty great week. :-p

Miss you guys.

Last night my 11 year old smashed his head on a cabinet door. After several hours at the ER, they put in 3 staples. They used the staples instead of stitches since the gash was on his scalp. I can't tell you how strange it is to look down at him and see these 3 BIG staples in the middle of his head.

I hope your daughter's hand starts to feel better soon.

I'd take a hand wound over head wound anyday! The staples might look kinda cool for Halloween? LOL Hope he's okay. That had to hurt!

You have my sympathies, as I’ve gone through similar scenarios with my kids. But, as frustrating as it is, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and make sure it’s nothing serious. Glad everything turned out ok.
