Sat down and wrote a short series of character's thoughts on Spike. Each person and how I imagine they might view him. This is what i came up with.
Fred loved to watch Spike interact with the others. His snark and arrogance a shield for the pain she knew he felt inside. She'd close her eyes and imagine herself in Buffy's place. The way he spoke of her told a tale of a love she had never been fortunate enough to know. He died to protect her and she knew he would do it all over again given the same choice. The times when he'd share his heartbreak, when no one else was around, made her dream of a relationship she knew they would never have. And she felt jealous of a blonde-haired slayer.
Wesley watched Spike spinning, flying, a true predator on the hunt, the young vampires no match for the skill and finesse of the practiced warrior. His body was exquisite in its movement. Muscled limbs flexed and stretched with cat-like grace and power. He wondered what Spike would look like lying under him. He pictured full, half-closed lips pursed in pleasure, eyes closed in quiet concentration with strong, firm legs wrapped around his body in submission. Then he wondered if Angel saw the same thing when he looked upon his grandchilde. And he found himself jealous of their history.
Gunn watched Spike in the corner, wondering what he was thinking. Always an outsider, the vampire seemed almost a phantom even in his corporeal form. He rarely spoke unless to ridicule but seemed to know each of them so well. Knew what made them tick, what kept them going. He pushed the right buttons to drive them toward their goal, hidden under the sharp and witty snarks. On the few occasions when he almost seemed a part of the group, his worldly knowledge proved to be invaluable to their cause. Wolfram and hart had given him false memories in his sense of security and hands-on knowledge, but Spike had the real thing. He watched the blond vampire. And was jealous of his experience.
Lorne listened quietly, un-seen by the distracted vampire. Humming a tune the green demon couldn't quite place, the vibes he was receiving almost blew him away. So much left undone. So much left to achieve. The future was long and prosperous with many open doors. A world holding her arms wide to let the vampire have his hearts desire. All he had to do was step through and accept his fate. Lorne watched and smiled. And felt jealous of the perfect happiness he would know.
Angel gazed down upon Spike as he slept. He'd sneaked in, wondering how he could go un-sensed by the other vampire, but gracious for the time to ponder his lost companion. His friend, his pupil, his lover. A lifetime ago it seemed. A time when they could laugh and share without competition. A time before desertion. A time before a slayer they both loved too much. Too many obstacles to let them be what they once were to each other. A prophecy that would forever keep them apart. He looked upon his grandchilde and longed to hold him in his arms and protect him as he used to. And he felt jealous that Spike was able to move on without him.

Like how you implied that Gunn is no longer...who we think he is.
Aw yay!! Lorne! And he's giving me hope!
And our always broody Angel. Sketched perfectly.
